The aim of this conference is to develop the understanding of the trade-off between financing and governance issues in SMEs, with a special focus on family business. The conference aims to consider the way family business can raise external funds without losing the family commitment uniqueness. The theme invites a wide-ranging spectrum of theoretical and empirical perspectives, quantitative and qualitative researches. Given these assumptions, several aspects can be developed and investigated. Any empirical or theoretical paper on the conference topics is welcomed.
Alain Coën is Full Professor of Finance at the Graduate School of Business (ESG) of the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM). Before joining ESG-UQÀM, he was associate professor of finance at EDHEC School of Management. He obtained his PhD in Finance from the University of Grenoble, and his PhD in Economics from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. He holds a Master of Arts in Economics with major in Macroeconomics from Laval University and Accreditations to supervise research (HDR in Management) from Paris-Dauphine University and (HDR in Economics) from University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. He has been visiting professor at Paris-Dauphine University, University of Paris-Ouest-Nanterre, EDHEC, Laval University, HEC- University of Liège and University of Sherbrooke. His research interests focus on asset pricing, international finance, hedge funds, REITs, business cycles and financial econometrics. He has published in several international journals including Real Estate Economics, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Financial Research, Economics Letters, Finance Research Letters, Journal of Economics and Business, Finance, Journal of Alternative Investments… and has written a book in financial management. He is an associate researcher of the Ivanhoé Cambridge Real Estate Chair at ESG-UQÀM Graduate School of Business.
Peter Jaskiewicz is Ph.D. and associate Professor at John Molson School of Business, University Concordia in Montreal, Canada. His current research interests involve transgenerational entrepreneurship, executive team compensation, nepotism, corporate reputation, and succession planning. His research is published in Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Business Venturing, Academy of Management Learning & Education, Family Business Review, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Family Business Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development.
Halil Kiymaz is Ph. D. CFA and Associate Professor at Crummer Graduate School of Business, Rollins College, Winter Park, United States of America. He is the Bank of America Professor of Finance. His research interests involve Mergers and Acquisitions, Multinational Financial Management, Emerging Markets. His research is published in for instance in Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Review, Global Finance Journal, Journal of Applied Finance, Journal of Economics and Finance, Review of Financial Economics, and Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics.
